EVERYONE has “trauma”. We all experience something along the way that creates feelings of discomfort, embarrassment, shame, and guilt.
Yes, some trauma is more impactful than others, but nonetheless, it all has an impactful effect on your life.
Here are 3 ways unresolved trauma impacts your life:
- All of your relationships suffer: romantic, professional, friends, and family.
You don’t fully show up as YOU. The most important relationship you have is with YOURSELF.
When that is damaged it will influence every other relationship you have, oftentimes creating conflict, intimacy issues, feelings of inadequacy, and loneliness.
- Your physical health suffers.
Weight gain is quite common, especially with females who have been victims of violence. Many times people turn to alcohol, drugs, and food as a way to cope, and numb feelings through self-medication.
Chronic dis-ease can show up as fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and cancer to name a few.
When the physical body is plagued by trapped, negative emotions it responds in the form of disease, pain, and sleep related issues.
Unexplained anxiety frequently surfaces when someone is making choices incongruent to who they are.
- You are not present, and are missing out on life.
When your mind and body is consumed by negative feelings, you don’t get to experience the joy and peace of family vacations, and quality time with your kids, spouse, friends, or loved ones.
It’s like you are existing, but not really living.
Does this sound like you? If so, this is why I do the work I do, to help people get out from their emotional prison and back into better personal and physical health.
